I would never go without photos on the big day… it’s priceless to have an album to pick up at a moment’s notice and flip through to reminisce. But there is nothing that can transport you back in time like experiencing the sights, sounds and moving images of your wedding through film. You are a guest at your own wedding. You can finally experience it all over again, from listening to the ceremony, hearing the cheers as you have your first kiss, to the send off at the end of the night.

The best is being able to go back and actually hear the spoken words of toasts from your loved ones. And I mean really listen to them! As the one filming, what often goes through my mind is, “If this wasn’t being filmed how would they ever really remember just how funny or heartfelt that was?!” Not to mention, all the countless details and hours of preparation finally come to life! On film!

Statistically the #1 regret after the wedding is not having a wedding filmed. If you are nervous and don’t like to “be on camera” there are ways to present your wedding in a tasteful and classic way that will make you wonder if there was a filmmaker there at all. Ask your local filmmaker for details on their style and approach.

Today’s modern wedding filmmaker is NOT what people typically have in mind. Uncle Bob holding the big camcorder, bright lights set up all over the room, and cheesy editing. Please also check out Meg Simone Featured On: Nantucket Weddings Unveiled with “The New Film Generation” Part 1, for more info on the “modern wedding filmmaker.”

Wedding filmmakers today are creating mini “movies” that are a reflection of you as a couple. Less is more – a lot of clients are opting for shorter highlight films that are action packed with key moments of the day, but are still able to view all the main events in full, as separate tracks on the DVD (packages vary from company to company).

Cameras are smaller now, and a lot of companies are shooting with DSLR technology, which are the same cameras many still photographers are using! Not all wedding film companies are the same. Some specialize in music montages and music video style edits, others use a lot of natural sound bites and take a more documentary approach to putting the film together. Most filmmakers can accommodate each client’s style.

Opting to have a film is something that really enhances the wedding experience. It is an oral and visual account of what people said, what actually happened, the first dance, your grandmother’s laugh – all of the small things. Imagine being able to actually go back to the cocktail hour or experience it for the first time, especially if you were outside taking photos. You can watch and relive the wedding over and over again when you want where you want. They say the feelings that people experience on their wedding day are like none other, so why not have the option to experience them any day for the rest of your life?
